The role of the General Dental Practitioner in the prevention and management of Oral Cancer.
J Pak Dent Assoc Jan ;11(4):219-23.

The vast majority of oral cancers are carcinomas of the squamous cell (SCC) type. They may be curable if detected and managed early enough. More importantly, they are almost entirely preventable. This should be the main thrust of our efforts as health practitioners. Unfortunately, the majority of oral cancers seen in the major treatment centers of Pakistan are well advanced. Neglect, on the part of the patient and, often of the primary care physician or dentist, plays an important part in the high mortality rate we encounter.
