J Pak Assoc Derma Jan ;12(4):179-82.

Terbinafine has been extensively used in the management of superficial fungal infections, using different treatment regimens. To evaluate the safety and efficacy of short-term therapy with terbinafine, 35 patients (30 males and 5 females) whose disease was confirmed with KOH examination and culture were included in this study. Twenty-one patients had trichophyton rubrum, 9 had trichophyton mentagrophytes and 5 had trichophyton violaceum infections. The relevant laboratory investigations and clinical signs and symptoms were recorded at first visit, after completion of therapy (2 weeks) and at the end of follow up period (6 weeks). All the patients wee provided with 2 tablets of terbinafine (Lamisil 125mg) daily for two weeks after meals. The mean sum of score decreased significantly from 11.3 to 0.15 at the end of follow up. There was significant improvement in erythema, scaling, vesiculation and pruritus. None of the patients complained any side effects. This study shows that 2 weeks therapy with terbinafine is highly effective in tinea corporis/cruris and is well tolerated.
