J Coll Physicians Surg Pak Jan ;13(3):172-5.

A case of spontaneous feeding tube knotting over a vesical calculus, in a 3 years child, is presented which had evaded clinical diagnosis and was discovered at open cystolithotomy. A vesical calculus with a firm simple knot of feeding tube over it and stuck at internal urethral meatus was found. Feeding tube was cut and cystolithotomy performed. Postoperative follow-up was without complication.

Case Reports: A 3 years old boy presented to emergency room with excessive crying and acute urinary retention. Foleys catheter was tried to relieve the retention but unfortunately attempt to catheterize the patient was unsuccessful. The available No. 8 feeding tube was passed and retention was relieved. Patient was re-examined after a short interval. Abdominal examination was unremarkable. Vesical calculus was confirmed on x-ray KUB. Patient was prescribed urinary antiseptics and prepared for open cystolithotomy. In the meantime, patient again developed retention of urine while feeding tube was still in the urinary bladder. Saline wash with an attempt to withdraw the tube failed. Emergency surgery was performed. It was seen that feeding tube had formed a knot over the calculus and was stuck at the internal urethral meatus. Cystolithotomy was performed and feeding tube was removed. Postoperative recovery was uneventful.
