Renal Biopsy findings in Childhood Nephrosis.
J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;6(2):57-9.

Background: To evaluate renal biopsies in children under the age of 15 years, presenting with nephrotic syndrome. Methods: The study was conducted on 48 children who presented with nephrotic syndrome at P.I.M.S. from January 1995 to December 1998. All were hospitalized for renal biopsy. Both light microscopy and immunofluorescence findings were recorded separately and then correlated with each other to reach a diagnosis. Results: The main lesions were minimal change disease and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, along with some cases of membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis and other primary glomerular diseases. Conclusions: Minimal change disease (MCD) is the major cause of childhood nephrosis, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is second most common cause and membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) has a significant share in causing the nephrotic syndrome in children.
