Comparative bond strengths of five dental adhesives on Dentin.
J Pak Dent Assoc Jan ;12(2):69-76.

OBJECTIVES: A number of clinical factors can affect the bond strengths between modern aesthetic restorations, bonding systems, and prepared dentin. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effects of several different factors on the bond strengths between various dental adhesives and prepared dentin. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Five dental adhesives, representing self-etching, multi-component, and single-component systems, were used with a variety of clinically-relevant application techniques to examine their effects on dentin bond strength. Immediate bond strengths were measured using an Instron universal testing machine. ANOVA and the Bonferrorni post-hoc test were used to identify and locate significant differences at a = 0.05. RESULTS: Although slight variations were found, no significant differences were noted. Based on the results of this study. bond strengths do not vary significantly when adhesive systems are applied to dry, moist, or wet dentin. The method for applying the adhesives also does not affect the bond strength with the systems studied. Further. gentle or forceful air to evaporate adhesive solvents may be used without affecting bond strengths. CONCLUSIONS: Bond strengths were not significantly affected by the clinical variables studied. Other affects may be noted, i.e. post-operative sensitivity and microleakage, but these were not studied.
