Current Knowledge in oral submucous fibrosis: Where do we stand today in Pakistan?.
J Pak Dent Assoc Jan ;12(2):135-41.

In Pakistan, as across most of the south Asian region, the incidence of OSF and oral cancer seems to be on the rise with an increasingly younger population begin affected. Knowledge about the precise mechanisms will permit treatments to be tailored to those specific factors. This will always be unaffordable to the majority of the population that is affected. Many more children and breadwinners will continue to live in fear or die a needlessly painful death. More affective public health education is needed. However, it is stressed, that there is great need for implementable legislation to ban the population and sale of areca nut complexes, at least to minors, with the same zeal that is employed for narcotic smuggling.
