General Practitioner Consultation after a Pediatric Tonsillectomy - Continuing Audit Cycle.

In 1995 an audit of paediatric tonsillectomy patients at Alder Hey Children`s Hospital revealed 41% of the patients attending the General Practitioner (GP) post-operatively. Giving patients chewing gum post-operatively resulted in GP attendance falling to 28%. Advice was given to the patients regarding the appearance-of-the- throat post-operatively, including -theseverity -o,(pair.-that -could be expected. This was included on our advice sheet. A further audit was performed which revealed a reduction in the GP attendance rates to 22%.
