Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;19(3):72-6.

Purpose: To evaluate the visual outcome of Lasik for high myopia. Patient & method: This is a retrospective study composed of 24 eyes of 24 patients, age ranged from 22 to 42 years and myopia ranged from -9.00 to -18 D Spherical Equivalent (SE). In all patients nasal hinge was created with automated microkeratome and ablation of stromal bed was done with ArF 193 nm excimer laser (Visx 20/208). Uncorrected visual acuity, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), manifest refraction (SE) and corneal topography was done preoperatively, one week and three months postoperatively. Result: There was significant change in post operative uncorrected visual acuity from 6160 to 6118 or better in 79.16. % of eyes. Whereas in five eyes (20.83%) there was improvement in vision but uncorrected vision was < 6/18. There was drop in best corrected VA of one line in 3 eyes (12.5%). Two eyes had free flap but with no visual consequences. All patients noticed increase in uncorrected vision on first post operative day. conclusion: Lasik is an effective technique for correction of high degree of myopia in selected group of patients. Visual recovery is quick and pain free.
