Immunization status and reasons for now vaccination in children, attending O.P.D. at Liaquat University Hospital.

Objectives: To assess the immunization coverage of children from Hyderabad city and to determine the reasons for non-vaccination. Design: Cross, Sectional Survey. Setting & subjects:- Study was conducted in paediatric outpatients department of Liaquat University Hospital. 500 children from 1 year to 3 year were examined for B. C. G scar & weighed, while all mothers were interviewed using a specially designed proforma. Results: All children were vaccinated for poliomyelitis, 71.6% for B.C. G, 64.8% for DPT while only 40.8% had measles vaccination. More than 90% mothers were uneducated and the most common reasons for non vaccination were laziness in mothers and minor illnesses in children. 78% of children were malnourished. Conclusion: Low vaccination coverage in presence of many EPI centres indicate need for education & motivation for both parents and primary health care staff.
