Ann Pak Inst Med Sci Jan ;16(4):185-9.

Objective: The objective of the study is to assess the efficacy of HB vaccination among patients of End Stage Kidney Disease on twice weekly maintenance dialysis. Methodology: Study was performed in a Hemodialysis Unit in Gujrat from July 2017 to March 2019. A total of 128 ESKD patients receiving twice weekly hemodialysis started within last 3 months were included. All the patients received Recombinant DNA vaccines by Glaosmithkline (Engerix B) in double doses (40mcg each) intramuscularly at 0, 30 and 180 days. Blood samples were collected after 6 months to perform quantitative tests measuring anti HBs titers. The antibody titers were analysed using semi-quantitative micro-particle enzyme immunoassay. Minimum protective titer was 10 mIU/mL. Results: Among 128 patients, 64.8% were males and 53.1% were 46-70 years old. Among 107 responders, 80(74.8%) were good responders. Among 80 good responders, 55(68.8%) were males and 25(31.3%) were females. The result was found statistically significant (P=0.045). Among 80 good responders, 40(50.0%) were 46-70 years old with insignificant results (P=0.689).Conclusion: Study concluded that three doses of Hepatitis B vaccination in double dose, were found effective among patients with ESKD as most of the patients (83.6%) responded to hepatitis B vaccination while the efficacy of hepatitis B vaccination was 74.8%.
