Retrospective analysis of 54 patients with Acute Rheumatic Fever.

Fifty four (54) cases of Acute Rheumatic Fever were admitted in Children Hospital, PIMS, Islamabad from January 2000 to June 2003. 58% were male and 42% female with mean age of 9.7 years. Common clinical features were carditis (72%), arthritis (57%), fever 50% and chorea in 12%. ASO titre was raised in 62.5% cases, ESR raised in 68%, CRP+VE in 33%, prolonged PR interval in 22% of cases and cardiomegaly in CXR in 42%. Out of 72% of carditis patients 87% had mitral regurgitation on echocardiography and 10% had aortic and mitral regurgitation, 3% out of 72% cases with carditis had TR with MR.
