J Sharif Med Dent Coll Jan ;4(02):66-70.

Objective: To detect the variation in number, size and location of nutrient foramina on various surfaces and zones of humerii dissected at the Anatomy Department of Sharif Medical and Dental College, Lahore. Methodology: It was a cross-sectional study conducted on sixty (n=60) non-paired human cadaveric humerii from the Anatomy Department of Sharif Medical and Dental College, Lahore. The study was approved from the ethical committee of the institution. The fractured or damaged bones were excluded from the study. The number, size and location of nutrient foramina were observed and recorded for each humerus. Data analysis was done using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23. Results: The percentage of humerii with single nutrient foramina was 81.7% whereas 18.3% had double foramina. The percentage of nutrient foramina present on the anteromedial surface was 98.3% with only 1.67% being on the posterior surface of the humeral shaft and 90% of the foramina were present in zone 2 with only 10% being in zone 3 of the humeral shaft. Conclusion: Our results concluded that 81.7% of humerii had a single nutrient foramen and only 11(18.3%) had double nutrient foramina. Most of the nutrient foramina were present on the anteromedial surface and zone 2 of the humerus. Keywords: Nutrient foramina. Humerii. Nutrient artery.
