A Short Trial of the Clinical Efficacy of Moxonidine in Hypertension.

Moxonidine is a an adrenergic alpha-2 receptor agonist acting on the imidazoline I-1 receptor resulting in a centrally mediated reduced sympathetic and vasomotor tone with resultant drop in blood pressure. It is slow to show a therapeutic response with 0.2mg once a day with (6/52) patients showing a response, but the efficacy improves with 03mg (21/52) and 0.4 mg (38/52) with very few side effects. It is a sate drug with a slow onset of action where the starting dose should be 03mg per day.
