The practice of evidence based medicine (EBM) means `integrating` individual clinical expertise and patients values with the best available external clinical evidence from systematic research. Individual expertise means the proficiency and judgment, acquired through clinical experience and practice. By best available external evidence is meant translation of "clinically relevant research", (often from basic sciences of medicine but especially from patient centered clinical research) into the accuracy and precision of diagnostic tests (including the clinical examination), the power of prognostic markers, efficiency and safety of therapeutic rehabilitation and preventive regimens. External clinical evidence both invalidate previously accepted diagnostic tests and treatments and replaces them with new ones that are more powerful, more accurate, more efficacious and safer [5]. By patients values we mean unique preferences, concerns and expectations of patients, which must be integrated into the clinical decisions. This is a review article.
