Computer Education: Attitudes and Opinions of Final-Year Medical Students.

Medical Education through computer is becoming popular through out the world because material available on compact discs and on the internet. Text books are available online and a vast variety of journals are also available. Searching for information has become very easy. The need to be computer literate and the need to incorporate regular teaching sessions in the curricula was assessed in final year MBBS students. Materials and Methods: Final year medical students (the old and new final year class of session 97-98 of Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore) were given a proforma to fill regarding the familarity and use of computers. A total of 198 students filled the proforma with 101 girls and 97 boys in the random fashion from amongst 2 sections of a class of over 350 students. Results: About 19% of the students said they were computer literate. Among the computer literates (19% = 37) were were 90% boys and 10% girls. Conclusion: At present computer literacy among medical students is rather poor. Our students feel strongly the need to be computer literate.
