One Month Audit of Stroke at PIMS.

A study of evaluation of strokes admitted in Neurology Department DIMS, during Jan., 1999 is presented. During this month total number of patients were eighty three. Out of these forty six were of strokes. Mates were sixty one percent, female thirty nine percent. Mean age was fifty seven years while the mean hospital stay was 6.2 days. Strokes due to cerebral infarction were in twenty five patients and haemorrhagic in twenty one patients. Most of cerebral infarctions were in territory of middle cerebral artery, and intracerebral haemorrhages were more in thalamic region followed by putamen. Hypertension was the most common risk factor in twenty seven patients, ischemic heart disease (IHD) in thirteen, and diabetes in ten patients. The mortality was 20% more in patients of haemorrhagic strokes. Glassgow Coma Scale (GCS) was important determinant in the out come of stroke.
