Recurrent Sciatica after Lumbar Discectomy.

It is a prospective study of 50 consecutive cases of lumbar disc prolapse. These cases were operated during ten month period from Sep. 1995 to June 1996 in Neurosurgery Unit 1, Lahore General Hospital, Lahore. Out of fifty cases, four patients (8%) developed post operative recurrent back and leg pain. After investigations, one patient had recurrent disc prolapse and an other one developed perineural fibrosis. Discitis was diagnosed in the remaining two patients (4%). Both these patients were treated satisfactorily. Discussion is mainly concentrated on those patients who developed recurrent back and leg pain due to recurrent disc prolapse or perineural fibrosis.
