Penetrating Injury of the Head.

A 55 year olf man presented with a self inflicted penetrating injury of the brain with a 5 inches long metallic rod. He was a known pyschiatric patient with previous history of suicidal attempts. After primary resuscitation and preparation, he was operated and the rod was taken out safely with no intr-operative complication. He went through the early postoperative period smoothly. During the follow-up period of 3 months, he got no complications of penetrating injury of the brain whatsoever. After regular treatment by the psychiatrist, he improved well, resuming his normal activities, but died of an acute myocardial infarction 4 months later.
