Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans.
Pak Armed Forces Med J Jan ;50(2):81-4.

29 cases of Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans (BXO) (Lichen Schlerosis et Atrophicus) are being presented. 24 cases were uncircumcised males (82.9%), 5 were circumcised (17.1%). 26 were studied retrospectively at the Royal London Hospital between 1971-1987 and 3 cases were studied at Combined Military Hospital, (CMH) Lahore between 1988-1996. Phimosis was the main feature in 80% of cases. 4 cases (14%) presented with repeated urethral strictures. One patient progressed to squamous cell carcinoma (3.3%). There was no evidence of its being of viral origin; and it is not a precancerous condition. The incidence of this disease may be higher than actually thought. Foreskins removed after circumcision should be examined histologically in cases of long standing balanitis. Circumcision cured early lesions but advanced cases with stricture formation and sclerosis were difficult to treat.
