Fauji Found Health J Jan ;1(2):12-5.

This study aimed at ascertaining the commonly prevalent risk factors associated with CAD and its manifestations in a cohort of male veterans. The management of CAD entails a lot qf expenditure acrd places an excessive burden on the tight economic resources of the organization of Fauji Foundation. The majority of patients were found to be smokers and smoking is a potentially remediable risk factor for- acute ML Smoking in the young age confers an increased risk than in older age groups. The next most common riskfactor was hypertension followed by hyperlipidemia. To achieve a meaningful reduction in the burden of acute myocardial infarction to hospitals, both active and passive smoking must be targeted. More emphasis on health education coupled with vigorous anti-smoking campaigns in service can, perhaps, help cut down the incidence of acute myocardial infarction and,at the same time ,sparing some of the vitally needed resources for extending health care.
