Multiple Sclerosis in A Tropical Population.

This retrospective study analyzed clinical and MR1 features in 25 patients who were referred for MRI with clinical suspicion of Multiple Sclerosis over a period from December 1994 to November 1996. The aim of the study was to evaluate the existence of Multiple Sclerosis as a distinct clinical entity in tropical population like Pakistan. We found that clinical and MRI features of ties demyelunating disorder from tropical population are comparable to those reported from Western countries. The study revealed that young females were affected more compared with men with a ratio of 1.5:1 and mean age of onset was 27.8 years (range 17 - 42 years). Relapsing and remitting pattern was observed in 80% of cases and remaining 20% had secondary progressive MS.
