The hematological derangements in malaria patients.

Objectives: To determine the frequency of anemia and thrombocytopenia in malaria patients. Material and Methods: This Cross-sectional study was conducted in Hematology department, Combined Military Hospital Multan from 29th April 2019 to 28th October 2019. A total of 186 diagnosed cases of malaria, having fever >= 101?'F with positive ICT malaria with age ranges from 20-60 years were included in this study. Blood sample was drawn in EDTA tube and taken to the laboratory for ICT malaria, Peripheral blood film for Malarial Parasite and CBC to see malaria parasite and observe anemia and low platelets count on peripheral film. Results: Mean age of 41.80 +- 8.51 years. Out of 186 patients, 101 (54.30%) were male and 85 (45.70%) were female with male to female ratio 1.2:1. Mean duration of disease in our study was 4.91 +- 1.32 days, determined by fever. In our study, frequency of derangement among patients with malaria was found to be anemia in 27 (14.52 %) patients and low platelet count in 142 (76.34 %) patients. +- Conclusion: This study concluded that the frequency of anemia and thrombocytopenia among patients with malaria is quite high.
