Nephrotic syndrome in Pakistani children: clinical profile and response to steroid therapy.
Pak Paed J Jan ;19(4):147-9.

Seventy nine children with nephrotic syndrome (N.S) were seen at the National Institute of Child Health, Karachi between Jan, 1991 and June, 1992. They were treated according to the International Study of Kidney Diseases in Children (ISKDC) protocol for treatment of NS. Ninety four percent responded initially to corticostroids, while the remaining 6% were found resistant. Seventy eight percent of those who had initially responded relapsed. Four of the resistant patients were treated with cyclophosphamide. Three achieved complete remission, while in the remaining 01 remission could not be acheived. The present study reveals that majority have steriod responsive NS (minimal change disease).
