Acute Flaccid Paralysis surveillance at Bahawalpur Victoria Hospital Sentinel Unit Bahawalpur.

This study was carried during the years 1986 to 1996. All patients under age 15, presented as acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) were analyzed. Every case of AFP was considered to be a case of polio polio virus was isolated from the stool sample and there was residual paralysis 60 days after the onset of illness. Results: It was seen that polio remained endemic in this area throughtout the last decade. During 1997, 50% of the cases reported in last 4 months of the year. Maximum no. of cases were seen in 1991 (190).
