Bacteriology of the Tonsil Core in recurrent tonsillitis in Children.
Pak Paed J Jan ;20(2):63-5.

Tonsils were obtained from 35 children mean age (6 years 9 months) suffering from recurrent tonsillitis. Mixed aerobic and anaerobic flora was obtained from core tonsillar culture in most of the patients. There were 33 anaerobic isolates and 57 aerobic isolates. The predominant anaerobic isolates were anaerobic streptococci (peptostreptococci) and bacteriodes species. The predominant aerobic isolates were staphylococcus aurcus, alpha hemolytic streptococci, non-hemolytic streptococci, group A Beta hemolytic streptococci and hemophilus influenza. The study findings indicate the polymicrobial nature of the deep tonsillar flora in children with recurrent tonsillitis.
