Ventriculoatrial Shunt compared to Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt.
Biomedica Jan ;17:11-3.

A random trial was conducted to compare the results of ventriculoatrial (V.A.) shunt with ventriculoperitoneal (V.P.) shunt with diagnosed cases of hydrocephalus. Forty-nine (67.12%) patients were operated for V. P. shunt. Out of these 7 (9.58%) patients had already V. P. shunt problem and hence it was converted to V. A. shunt. There was no mortality problem so that can be analysed in two groups. This study reports that in short follow up V. A. shunt was associated with less problems than a V. P. shunt.
