Pattern of stone disease in children in the region of Bahawalpur.

A prospective study of stone analysis in children was conducted at the Department of Paediatric Surgery and Department of Urology, Quaid-I-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur from January 1995 to April 1999. The study included a total of 102 patients, below 15 years of age and a total of 102 stones were chemically analyzed. Mixed stones containing calcium oxalate and uric acid were the most common (68.63%) in this study. Majority of the children were below 5 years of age and males were affected 3-4 times more frequently than females. Dehydration and poor nutrition were suggested as main etiological factors.
