A study of two and half year admissions in neonatal unit of Children Hospital, Larkana.

This paper is based on a retrospective study of 1361 new born babies admitted in neonatology unit of Children Hospital, Chandka Medical College, Larkana from February 1999 to July 1993. the aim was to determine neonatal disease pattern in this unit. The commonest cause of admission was birth anoxia & septicemia which accounted for 2/3 of the admissions. The overall mortality rate was around 39% being highest in cases of birth anoxia. Preterm babies constituted approximately 20% of admissions. Incidence of LBW was 38%. Higher number of admissions were recorded during summer months and particularly August, September & October.
