Acute scrotum in children. Our experience with 65 patients.

Acute scrotum is a common surgical emergency in children. A total of 65 cases with acute scrotum were seen over a period of 9 years. Of these, 32 patients had testicular torsion, 17 patients had torsion of appendages, four patients had idiopathic scrotal edema and seven had epididymo-orchids. Three patients of tense hydrocele and two cases of scrotal abscess were encountered during this period. The age at the time of presentation of different etiologies. effects of degree of torsion and duration of torsion on outcome are evaluated in this study. Majority of the patients presented after 12 hours of the onset of symptoms.
