A Study of Controversial Diagnosis of Recurrent Appendicitis.
Biomedica Jan ;17:41-3.

The inflammation of appendix, which resolves spontaneously, has long been a subject of controversy. This study was carried out to determine the presence and incidence of recurrent appendicitis. The existence of large number of patients with right iliac fossa pain allowed us to carry out a retrospective study of 723 patients who had appendicectomy, between October 1997 and October 2000 at Lahore General Hospital, Lahore. Eighteen patients had a normal appendix removed during this period. Fortyseven patients (6.5%) came to the casualty outdoor department repeatedly with signs and symptoms similar to appendicitis which resolved spontaneously till such time that :in acutely inflamed appendix was removed. There were a greater number of normal appendices removed in females than in male.
