Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;20(2):74-6.

Purpose: To evaluate safety and efficacy of Pahcoemulsification with implantation of rigid 6mm IOL without sutures. Methods: A prospective study was carried out on , 08 eyes over a period of 6 months. Keratometric astigmatic reading, and wound integrity were noted on first postoperative day and at 8 weeks. Results: Keratometric astigmatic readings (against the rule) on first post-op day were less than 1 D in 65%, between 1 and 1.5 D in 20%, and others 15%. Wound integrity at this point was noted. Two eyes had a mild wound leak with formed deep anterior chambers. At 8 weeks, keratometric astigmatic reading was less than 1 D in 54%, between 1 and 1.5 D in 31 %, between 1.5 and 2 D in 10% and 5% has astigmatism of more than 2 D. Conclusion: Implantation of 6mm rigid IOLs after sutureless phacoemulsification is a safe procedure with acceptable levels of post-operative astigmatism.
