Roll of Troponin-T in acute Myocardial Infarction.
Pak J Cardiol Jan ;10(2-3):68-70.

The objective of this study was to evaluate cardiac troponin (trop) T rapid bed side assay in the management of acute myocardial infarction. This study was conducted in the coronary care unit of Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Quaide-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur. All patients admitted in coronary care unit with chest pain syndrome with or without E.C.G changes of acute myocardial infarction. Cardiac troponin T is the latest, rapid bed side laboratory test to evaluate myocardial cell injury. The test consists of a small hand held barr which has cardiac trop T antibodies labeled with biotin and gold. A drop of blood is placed in a small well, which seperates RBCs and the serum leaks into the area containing cTnT antibodies. If serum has more than 1 gm/l trop T, it reacts with gold labeled antibodies and form a visible line. If test is positive the line appears within seconds to up to 15 minutes. The results showed that after 2-5 hours of onset of chest pain the sensitivity was 99% and specificity was 98%.
