Experience with Mesh Repair in the Management of Hernia.

A prospective study of 47 patients was carried out over a period of two years. The study started in October 1998. The age ranged from 26 to 67 years. The proportion of two sexes included in the study was 29 males (62%), and 18 females (2896). The prosthetic material used in all cases included in the study was Polypropylene. Number of recurrent hernias was 17 (36%), and number of primary repairs was 30 (64%). There were 28 inguinal hernias (60%) of which 9 were recurrent (19%). The number of ventral abdominal Hernias was 19 (40%) of which 4 were recurrences (8.51%). There were 3 incisional Hernias (6.38%) There was infection in 4 patients (8.51%) and the mortality in our series was nil.
