Caudal epidural analgesia for Hemorrhoidectomy in males: A comparative study of Lignocaine vs Bupivacaine.
J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;7(2):69-72.

Background: A prospective study of 60 cases to study the effects and side effects of bupivacaine in comparison with lignocaine. Methods: Sixty male patients were selected who were ASA physical status I and II and aged 20-45 years. They were at random divided into two groups of 30 each. Group 1 received injection lignocaine 1.5% with adrenaline (20 ml) in caudal epidural space. Group II received injection bupivacaine 0.5% (20 ml) as caudal epidural block. Results: Group-1 had rapid onset. Group-II had longer duration of analgesia with dense sensory block, more motor blockade with drop in blood pressure and heart rate. Conclusions: Both the drugs used were equally effective in providing per-operative analgesia when used through caudal epidural route. Bupivacaine provided prolonged analgesia with delayed onset of action as compared to lignocaine with adrenaline.
