Revised international definitions in Tuberculosis control.
Pak J Chest Med Jan ;7(Suppl):19-22.

The World Health Organization (WHO) mandate includes developing norms and standards in international health. Under this mandate, WHO has revised the international definitions used in tuberculosis control, in collaboration with the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Disease (IUATLD) and the Royal Netherlands Tuberculosis Association (KNCV). With the enormous expansion globally over the past decade in interest, activities and documentation concerning tuberculosis, a certain amount of slippage has occurred in the consistent use of definitions. Sharp-eyed readers have noticed inconsistencies between definitions used by the WHO and by the IUATLD, and even between definitions appearing in different WHO documents (ref 1-10). Some of the previously published definitions have in fact been a mixture of definition and recommendation of procedures. This is a review article.
