Relationship of Caregiver perceived stress and burden among stroke survivors- an Analytical study.

Objective:?To determine the relationship between perceived stress and caregiver burden in caregivers of stroke survivors.? Methods:??This Analytical cross-sectional study conducted on stroke caregivers. A sample of 384 participants fulfilling the inclusion criteria was recruited for data collection after ethical approval. The inclusion was limited to caregivers providing > 6 hours of care and stroke patients are post 1 month discharge from the hospital. The Zarit Caregiver burden interview and perceived stress scale were used to measure caregiver burden and perceived stress respectively. Using the SPSS version 25, Mean and standard deviations were calculated for quantitative and frequency/percentages for categorical variables. While Pearson correlation was used to find the relationship between the outcomes. Results:?The study comprised 207(53.9%) males and 177 (46.1%) females. On the other hand, the majority were found to have moderate stress 92.2%, and 7.8% were having severe stress. Mean Perceived Stress score of the caregiver was 22.8?2.84.The majority of the participants had a moderate to severe burden 95.1% but only 4.9% were having severe burden.? The mean caregiver burden score was?55.15?3.48.? The study concluded there was a strong positive correlation between perceived stress and caregiver burden in caregivers of stroke survivors.
