Retained foreign bodies.
Professional Med J Jan ;3(1):47-50.

A study of nine cases is presented whom had previously undergone laparotomy but ended up having retained foreign bodies. All nine were operated primarily elsewhere, four had emergency cesarean section, and one had intestinal surgery. The others had been operated for laminectomy, prostatectomy, herniorrhaphy and one had an incision and drainage for injection abscess. Seven of them came back within six months of primary surgery, another presented months later with sub acute intestinal obstruction and one presented five years later with retention of urine. Four had complained of abdominal masses, three had discharging sinuses, one had sub acute intestinal obstruction and another presented with vesical calculus. All were operated and recovery was uneventful in all with no mortality.
