Pak J Obstet Gynaecol Jan ;10(1,2):21-3.

Results of open and placebo controlled study of patients with two or more successive abortions treated with hCG is presented. 50 women were included in the study who had suffered from 2 or more first trimester abortions with no known cause. 25 women were given intramuscular hCG injection earliest from the diagnosis of pregnancy in a dose of 5000 iu twice a week till 12 weeks of pregnancy, then once a week till 14 weeks and a single injection after 15 days. The other 25 women were given multivitamin injection in the same regimen instead of hCG. Results were significant in the two groups. In the first group 23 out of 25 women continued their pregnancy to term and only 2 aborted, while in the placebo group only 13 women continued this pregnancy and the rest 12 aborted. Further large studies are required to confirm or discard the use of hCG in successive early pregnancy losses.
