Comparative study of effects of different drug regimens in the treatment of Hypertension.

BACKGROUND: hypertension effects 20% of adult population world wide a is most common cardiovascular disorder which effects the target organ and the involvement may be the first presentation of systemic Hypertension. The treatment of hypertension demands a definite commitment from the patients regarding his life style modification and strict adherence to the treatment. OBJECTIVES: Study was conducted in RCCH, Latifabad on the hypertensive population, examine, evaluate the course of disease look at the compliance and record the side effects. METHODS: A written consents was taken by all patients a questioner was filled regarding history, investigations, side effects and metabolic target organ profile. Patients were divided into three groups for allocating the various groups, such as calcium channel blockers, beta blockers and ACE inhibitors and these patients were followed for four weeks. RESULTS: A total 150 patients were studied. 63% were male, 66% were female 34% were had mild hypertension, 48% moderate and 18% had severe hypertension. In group A, patient taking calcium channel blockers 64%, showed good response, while 36% complained of adverse side effects. In group B with Beta blockers, blood pressure was adequately controlled in 74% of patients, while 21 % complained of side effects. In group C, ACE inhibitors had a better control on 80% people while 14% complained of dry cough. CONCLUSION: Our study showed the commonest risk factors is stress and genetic predisposition was seen in 74% of patients. Smokers constituted 33 % of patients and had 2-3 % of additional risk factors for stroke and M. 30 % patients had additional risk factors for history of angina and 30 % had hyperlipidemia. All the three groups adequately reduced blood pressure. But ACE inhibitor group showing the better results. A great reduction in morbidity and mortality in hypertensive population could be achieve by creating awareness regarding risk factors and benfit of grug compliance.
