Pseudo Cholinesterase level; Assessment in males & females of different age groups.
Professional Med J Jan ;8(2):204-6.

Two hundred healthy persons in Punjabi population have been assessed for level of pseudo cholinesterase in males and females of different age groups (Substrate: butyryl thiocholine iodide). There was no evidence of any age dependency or sex specific distinction in children (1-10 years) nor were there any age dependent changes observed in males (15-60 years). In females (10-40 years) an age dependent difference of cholinesterase values became apparent regardless of pregnancy or use of hormonal Contraceptives. The catalytic concentration was found lower in younger females (12-40 years) than in older ones (above 40 years) where enzyme level in old age group did not differ from those of males and children.
