Diagnostic Yield of Tru-Cut Biopsy in Breast Lumps.
Biomedica Jan ;15:50-3.

Tru-cut breast biopsy is a reliable method of pre-operative histological diagnosis of palpable breast lumps. Tru-cut biopsy was done in 104 female patients with palpable breast lumps and results were compared to histological findings in all cases after excision. The over all accuracy rate was 923%. Sensitivity was 943% and specificity was 913%. After excluding inadequate tissues for histology obtained by tru-cut needle from calculations the sensitivity was same i.e., 943% while specificity was 100%. No false positive or false negative diagnosis was made in this study. The method of tru-cut biopsy is simple, well acceptable to the patients, no hospitalization is required and can be repeated in case of inadequate tissue or if negative result is obtained while clinically strong suspicion for malignancy is there. It is a safe procedure and no complication was found in the present study.
