Role of FNA in the Diagnosis of Tuberculous Lymphadenitis.
Biomedica Jan ;15:54-9.

In these days as there is a surge of tuberculosis worldwide, increased efforts are needed for the preventive measures, early diagnosis and proper treatment of the disease. We present our experience of FNA, and the role of this simple, cost effective and rapid to report procedure in the early diagnosis of tuberculosis. So far we have performed 91 FNAC from the lymphnodes and superficial inflammatory lesions. Of these 34 (37.3%) were diagnosed as tuberculosis. In 30% of these cases mucopurulent material was aspirated. A tentative diagnosis of tuberculosis was given in these eases which was confirmed subsequently on excision biopsy. In 12% cases definite diagnosis of tuberculosis was given and in four patients ZN stain was also positive for AFB. The study has shown that FNAC has an important and definite role in the diagnosis of tuberculous lymphadenitis.
