J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;4(1-2):30-3.

This paper presents a prospective study on morphological profile of gall bladder disease in 150 consecutive cases. Age of the patients ranged from 7 to 82 years with an average age of 44.4 years. Female to male ratio was 6.1:1. The commonest lesion observed was chronic cholecystitis (80%), followed by acute cholecystitis (9.3%), invasive carcinoma (7.3%), carcinoma in situ (0.6%) and dysplasia (0.6%), respectively. A total of 113 cases (75.2%) harboured stones; 35 (23.2%) were acalculous and 2 (1.3%) showed sludge in the gall bladder. Amongst 12 cases presenting with carcinoma of gall bladder well differentiated adenocarcinoma, mucinous adenocarcinoma, papillary adenocarcinoma and mixed papillary & mucinous adenocarcinoma were observed in 16.6% of cases each. Moderately differentiated, poorly differentiated and sclerosing carcinomas were observed in one case (8.3%) each.
