Role of antibiotic prophylaxis in clean surgery.
Pak Postgrad Med J Jan ;11(3):87-8.

A prospective randomised double blind study was carried out in Services Hospital Lahore from April 1998 to October 1999 on 107 patients undergoing elective clean surgical procedures like inguinal herniotomy and Orcheopexy etc. Group A included 52 patients receiving a single shot of an antibiotic at the time of induction of anaesthesia. Group B included 55 patients who did not receive any antibiotic prophylaxis. There was no significant difference in the rate of wound infection in the two groups. The study proves that there is no indication of antibiotic prophylaxis in clean surgery.
