Prevalence of silent Ischemia in patients of Diabetes Mellitus [DM] without any history of ischemic heart disease [Study of evidence on positive Exercise Tolerance Test (ETT)].
Pak Postgrad Med J Jan ;11(2):67-70.

This prospective study was carried out to evaluate the prevalence of silent ischemia in asymptomatic diabetic patients having. normal resting ECGs compared to a group of non-diabetic patients serving as the control. 50 patients, 25 diabetic and 25 nondiabetic were subjected to ETT to detect silent ischemia. The age of the patients ranged from 30 to 60 years. The number of patients rather than percentage results of the study indicated that 12% of the non-diabetic patients and 52% of the diabetic patients were found to be ETT positive, suggestive of H-ID. More patients were ETT positive in the older age groups in both the diabetic and non-diabetic patients. The trend was noticed in both sexes. We conclude that silent myocardial ischemia is fairly common in diabetic patients, especially in older age groups. We advise ETT in diabetic patients to look for silent myocardial ischemia.
