Assessment of females behavior regarding urinary incontinence.

Objectives: The aims of this study were to identify the proportion of females with urinary incontinence not seeking professional help and its reasons. Furthermore to analyze their behaviors and attitudes to cope up with their problem of incontinence. Methods: A KAP survey was carried out in May 2002 at Gyne Unit I of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. One hundred women attending OPD for any complaints were asked to respond to a questionnaire based on 30 items including knowledge ,attitude and behavior towards urinary incontinence. Results: Of the 100 participants in the study, 45 reported incontinence on specific inquiry and only 4 out of it had sought medical care for their problem. Sixty seven percent of these are diagnosed as to be of stress incontinence Conclusion: The females with problem of urinary incontinence are hesitant to seek professional help and they felt they could cope with it on their own..
