This prospective study was conducted in Surgical Unit I of Civil Hospital, Karachi from 1st November 1999 to 31st October 2000 on 50 cases to compare the results of FNAC with histopathology in order to find out the efficacy and applicability of this procedure in our setup. In seven patientsFNAC was not able to differentiate between follicular adenoma and follicular carcinoma. One case of follicular carcinoma on histopathology, was reported as follicular lesions. on FNAC. There was no false positive, but two false negative results. Analysis of the data reveveals tha tFNAC has a high accuracy rate of 82% as a diagnostic modality to differenticate between benign and malignant solitary throid nodule.
