Giant cell tumour of the sacrum.
Pak J Surg Jan ;19(1):46-8.

We are presenting a rare case of Giant Cell Tumour of the Sacrum. The patient, a 24 years old male, came with the presenting complaints of urinary retention and altered bowel habits for two months duration. His cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological and abdominal examinations were normal. However, on digital rectal examination there was a palpable large swelling bulging the posterior wall of the rectum. An X-ray pelvis showed erosion of the sacrum, while an MRI Scan depicted it as a large teratoma / sarcoma of the pre-sacral region. At laparotomy a large, oval and cystic mass was found behind the rectum that was fixed to the sacrum. Attempts at removal had to be abandoned due to profuse bleeding. However, the curretings removed were sent for histopathology and the report came as giant cell tumour of the sacrum.
