Un-Usual Foreign Bodies in the Urinary Bladder.
J Ayub Med Coll Abottabad Jan ;11(2):65-6.

CASE-1: A 38 years old mentally retarded man was admitted with complaints of supra pubic discomfort and painful micturation for three months. Urine analysis revealed numerous white and red cells. X-ray pelvis showed an irregular object in the bladder which could not be identified properly, cystoscopy confirmed it to be in the urinary bladder. Since it was lying curled up cystoscopic removal was unsuccessful and therefore it was removed suprapubically. On cleaning it was found to be an elastic rubber which was 38 cm long. Following operation the patient had an uneventful recovery.

CASE-2: A young boy of 17 years was admitted with the complaints of painful micturation and haematuria. His history was of foreign body bladder which he passed himself per urethra. Physical examination was normal. Xray pelvis was normal and did not show any foreign body. Cystoscopy revealed a thin long foreign body in the bladder which was removed with biopsy forceps. It was a thin grass 27 em long. Patient had an uneventful recovery. The foreign body was not visualised on X-ray and cytoscopy because of its being radiolucent.

CASE-3: A 30 years old man was admitted with severe pain in urethra and suprapubic region with haematuria. He had an interesting history of burning micturation for which he went to a quake. After examination the quake passed a wire into his urethra for removal of a suspected stone. Whole wire was slipped in and he could not get hold of its end to bring it out. So the patient was brought to hospital. Physical examination was normal. X-ray revealed a radio-opaque wire in the urinary bladder. It was removed by open operation and was found to be a soft metallic wire commonly used in refrigerators. Luckily there was no perforation in the bladder wall.
