Serum Lactate Dehydrogenase levels in Patients suffering from Oral Carcinoma.
Pak Armed Forces Med J Jan ;50(2):94-7.

This paper presents the pattern of serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level in 60 patients suffering from oral cancer, as compared to a control group of 30 apparently healthy volunteers. Serum LDH level was found to be significantly higher (p < 0.001) in oral cancer group as compared to controls. The enzyme levels were also correlated with the clinical stage of the disease. It was observed that the enzyme levels progressively increased with the increasing stage of oral cancer. An inter stage comparison revealed a highly significant difference (p < 0.001) of serum LDH between stages I & III, I & IV, II & III, II & IV, and III & IV. We therefore, agree that an elevated serum LDH is a bad prognostic factor in cases of oral cancer.
